Privacy Policy
How The Cherished looks after your personal data.
Last updated: 3 November 2026
Who we are
The Cherished (thecherished.co.uk) is run by [business name], [address]. We are responsible for your personal data. Contact us at info@thecherished.co.uk.
What we collect
- Account details: your name and email address.
- Memorial content: details you add about your loved one, family messages, funeral, Janaza, burial and resting place details, photos and videos.
- Visitor content: names, emails, comments, prayers, photos and videos left on memorials.
- Reminder choices: whether you chose Yes or No thanks to anniversary reminders, and when.
- Plaque interest: details you give when registering interest.
- Technical data: basic information needed to keep the site secure and working, and counts of how often plaque QR codes are scanned.
Some details, such as funeral or prayer arrangements, may show a family's religious beliefs. We only use this to show the memorial as you set it up.
Why we use it
- To run the service you've asked for: creating memorials, sharing them, and handling comments and uploads.
- To send emails you've asked for, such as notifications to memorial owners and anniversary reminders if you chose Yes.
- To keep the site safe and to fix problems.
- To tell you about plaques if you registered interest.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your data. We use trusted providers to run the site: hosting and database (Lovable and Supabase), email delivery, and Google Maps for locations and directions. Some providers may store data outside the UK, with appropriate safeguards in place.
Who can see memorials
Memorials can be viewed by anyone with the link. Memorial owners approve comments and uploads before they appear.
How long we keep it
We keep memorials and their content for as long as the memorial exists. If you ask us to delete your account or a memorial, we'll remove it within 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or stop reminders at any time using the unsubscribe link or by emailing us. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Cookies
We only use cookies needed to keep you logged in and the site working. Google Maps may set its own cookies when a map is shown.
